Think!

I've had a passion for books since I can remember. I recall being in elementary school. Once a week, my Mother would take me to the public library. I would check out 10 books, the max you could check out at one time, I'd devour them and then return the following week for 10 more. Thank you very much LAPL.

So, when I come across a book that speaks to me, I like to share it with whom ever is willing to listen. Think, Straight Talk for Women to Stay Smart in a Dumbed-Down World by Lisa Bloom was recommended to me by my lovely friend, Celina. She gave me a synopsis and I was immediately hooked. Of course, I had to check out the goods for myself. I purchased this book and read it in about 8 hours. It was definitely a page turner and eye opening.

"In this provocative, entertaining, educational, and thoroughly researched book, Lisa outlines the ways that we as a society, and particularly women, have fallen off the intellectual path, and, very specifically, points to how damaging this has been to us on many levels. Lisa shows us the fallout–but she also provides the solutions for “Reclaiming the Brain God Gave You” and seizing back control of your mind and your life. Think is delivered in a no-nonsense manner that will make you laugh, make you question yourself, make you squirm, but, most important, make you start thinking again."

I know for a fact that on a day to day basis, we don't spend much time thinking about global issues. On the contrary, we think about many things already featured on this blog. Clothes, make up, shoes, apprearances, vanity. I am definitely guilty of spending more hours tracking down the latest Chanel Graphite Polish than I am volunteering at a homeless shelter. We get caught up. I get it. But after reading this book, I promise you, you will give more meaningful things in life more thought. Do yourself a favor, pick this book up and read it.

Also, if you're interested, Lisa Bloom's website has many more book recommendations and meaningful content to peruse over. http://think.tv/  Happy reading.

Latin Explosion

Bummer,  Summer has come to an end. Today marks the first day of Fall and for me, this is truly devastating. I am miserable in cold weather. I prefer to live in triple digit temperatures year round. I've been told by many several times that I should live closer to the Equator and although that would make sense, my heart belongs to LA. Instead, I opt to visit warmer climates on vacations such as the one I just recently returned from.

I recently spent five days in Miami and another five cruising the Carribbean. This was my first cruise I've ever embarked on and can I just tell you, it won't be my last. I had an amazing time. Carnival sure knows how to have a good time. From the entertainment, food, shows, and dancing, you won't ever want to leave the ship.

Miami could definitely be a second home for me. It is food for my soul. There is so much energy in this city. Everything from South Beach's warm waters, to Cuban Food, I can never get enough ropa vieja, the language, I love hearing the Spanish accent in Cubans, Dominicans, and Puerto Ricans, the love for music and dancing. Its all so very magical. For those that don't know me, I LOVE to dance. I'm not claiming to be a professional at all, but I just feel so liberated and full of happiness when I'm on a dance floor. Seeing professionals working their art is even more inspiring. I'm definitely signing up for some dance classes.

Great Dancers at Mango's put on an amazing show

The second part of my trip was just as much fun. Our first stop was Turks and Caicos. I toured the island in about an hour and a half. The people were friendly, the beer was great, and it was definitely HOT. The second stop was Half Moon Cay. You basically need to live in water to survive this little island. Triple Digits, I have arrived. My final resting stop was Nassau, Bahamas. I had the most amazing tour guide. If you're ever out there, ask for "Captain Kirk". You can't see the Bahamas any other way.

I  highly recommend going on a cruise and visiting these islands. I had a great time and hope to visit again.

Pink Shock!

I've become determined and down right obsessed with finding the perfect bright pink lipstick. Something that channels Nicki Minaj's obnoxious (to some) pink pout. So, I headed to the make up counters and I was pleasantly surprised to have found 3 wonderful options at MAC. Since my purchase of such lovely tubes of wax, I have been wearing them non stop. Its so hard to even consider one my favorite since I truly love them all.

Blush in Pink Swoon. Complements all three lipsticks.

I even found a drugstore alternative for all my ladies that would like to try this look for less.

Just Because

As a jewelry lover, admirer of many designers, make up hoarder, nail polish junkie, music and dancing enthusiast, avid book reader, and Starbucks (aka "crack") feen, here you have me. I LOVE many things and this blog will take you on a journey of such randomness. I am embarking on this journey, "just because" I want to. I've always wanted to and here I am, jumping into it and seeing what develops from it. Welcome and I hope you enjoy the ride.
